Client Testimonials

Andy Davis, LCSW-S

I have been practicing as a therapist for more than 7 years and I have worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds. I work with adolescents 12+ and with adults of all ages. In addition to individual therapy, I also work with couples and families on a wide variety of topics.

I like to say that I had a “short,” 14 year career in the Air Force before deciding to become a social worker. After separating from the Air Force, I attended the University of Texas at Austin and earned my MSSW in my journey to becoming a licensed social worker. In addition to being a practicing therapist, I have also worked in medical social work and case management. My career had the opportunity to come full circle, and I now teach graduate-level social work courses at UT Austin!

As a veteran myself, I am acutely aware of what it means to serve as a member of the military. I have worked with members of all branches and components of the military, and I have a passion for helping those who are making the transition from active service to veteran status.

With clients, I use client-centered, relational therapy. This means that you, not me, are the driver of the therapy session and that my role is to listen and offer my insight, not to tell you what to do. Some clients prefer, or may benefit from, a specific type of therapy and I am trained in several types of therapy.

I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques to teach skills related to the core goals of mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Additionally, I have specialized training in Radically Open DBT (RODBT) for people who struggle with issues such as perfectionism, harsh self-judgments, avoidance, and isolation.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is another type of therapy in which I have specialized training. EMDR is a therapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. In therapy, I use the detailed protocols and procedures of EMDR to help clients activate their natural healing processes.

I am currently available on Fridays and Saturdays for in-person visits at my Austin office and available the rest of the week for telehealth visits. I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform for telehealth that can be used on computers or mobile devices.

I am also a Texas board-recognized supervisor who can provide clinical supervision to LMSW’s who wish to work towards their LCSW license. I offer both individual and group clinical supervision.

I am able to accept the following insurances: Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, and Medicare. Clients can also private pay, and my rates are $165 for couples and $150 for individuals with the option for sliding scale.

Rebecca Carton, LMSW

I have worked with many populations throughout my career including children and adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, women and men struggling with their mental health, adults navigating the criminal justice system, middle-school students, and seniors. As a therapist, I work with adolescents and adults and provide individual and couples therapy. Before settling into social work, I spent 14 years in the arts and my experiences were pivotal in making me the therapist I am today. In the theatre, you must find your voice, be in your body, improvise, collaborate, and maintain curiosity. I take all of this into my practice.

With clients, I will listen, empathize, help make sense of things, explore ways of finding relief, and constructively challenge. I am trained in several modalities, including Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFCT), which uncovers the conflict loop couples often fall into, identifies vulnerabilities, and supports couples in building more secure bonds.

I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. It uses bilateral stimulation (like side-to-side eye movements or tapping) while recalling distressing events, helping the brain reprocess the memories and reduce their emotional impact.

I am able to accept the following insurances: Blue Cross/ Blue Shield, United Healthcare, and Aetna. Clients can also private pay, and my rates are $125 with the option for sliding scale.

Evan Schwartz, LMSW, PhD (Biochemistry)

My name is Evan, and I became a therapist through an unconventional path. I spent years working on my PhD in biochemistry before realizing that I missed connecting with people. My curiosity with science eventually intertwined with my fascination towards mental health. I found myself reading about how social and neurological development affects our thinking, feeling, and sense of connection. I work with adolescents, adults, and couples over a broad range of topics, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, social anxiety, substance use, and internet and video game addiction.

The modalities I mainly focus on are Attachment, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. I have a strong belief that meaningful change starts with awareness, and my role is to get curious with you as we navigate your daily struggles and reconnect with what's important to you.

Taking the first step towards therapy can be daunting, but I'm here to remind you that you don't have to have everything figured out to start. Sometimes just noticing that something feels off is enough. If you're curious about what therapy might look like for you, reach out and let's talk.
